Smart grid is known to everybody as development trend of future grid. As an important part of smart grid, development level of digital substation determines development schedule of smart grid to some extent. Digital substation is extension and development of substation automation technology. With the development of unconventional transformer which is based on photoelectron and digital signal processing technology, promulgation and implementation of IEC61850 standard, maturation of communication technology based on ethernet network, development of intelligent circuit breake, it makes substation automation technology get into new development stage. Substation automation system has probability of digitalizing collection, transfer and treatment of information. Digital substation is important choice of new-built substation. Digital substation offers powerful support in order to improve operation level of grid based on large amount and large dimensionThe paper firstly introduces importance of the topic and research situation of digital substation at home and abroad and represents major job of the paper. Then it introduces basic contents, composition and major technical characteristics. Secondly it studies structure of digital substation. Finally the paper researches implement scheme of digital substation in detail combining the first 220kV digitized substation built by Harbin electric company in 2009. According to detail analysis of system structure and devices configuration of digital substation the paper demonstrates advantage of information sharing platform and interoperability between smart devices.
