The research on stability and security of power network has been a key issue in the traditional electric power system operation. As a lower hierocratical system of provincial power grid, regional power grid has smaller transmission capacity and lower voltage level, so the problem of stability and security was not protruding, but once an accident which spread to the whole system happens, it would also be a serious consequence. Along with the grid scale unceasingly expands and the interconnecting development of national network, conducting the research on stability and security of regional power grid is necessary. In this paper, actual regional power grid is used as subject, the analysis of security and stability calculation for the regional power grid on general methods and steps is set out. The power flow of this region is calculated in four typical operation modes to find out some security hidden troubles in system operation through the static security analysis and stability calculation on the basis of power flow results, and some specific requirements and measures are putted forward to improve operation level. Finding out that the stability and security of regional power grid is a systemic and complicated problem through the calculation above mentioned. It needs a variety of security measures to decrease the occurrence and scope of accident. In particular, the regional network structure is weaker. With electrical load developing rapidly and electrical supply being more and more tension, the network power flow is overweight in some operational modes. In this situation, stability problem is easy to happen and the consequence can have a serious impact on the flexibility of operation. Therefore, perfecting network need to be achieved. The original network structure is optimized with minimum-cost spanning tree (MCST) algorithm and modified based on N-1 principle of grid planning and the new network which is recalculated accords with the requirement. It enhances the power service ability and solves the bottleneck problem of power supply in this area.
