Suitability Protection And Regeneration Of The Kiln Courtyard In Shan County In Western Henan Province

This thesis is self-selected according to the tutor's suggestion, which is also supported by the Supporting Program of the "Eleventh Five-year Plan" for Sci & Tech Research of China (20066DAJ04A02).Traditional residence inherits thousands of years' nature environment and historical culture. Nowadays It is very worthwhile to do research on traditional residence for the following reasons:the first one is to preserve local culture and building techniques;the second one is to improve the traditional residence with modern civilization.Kiln courtyard is one of special building forms of traditional residence in China. It has various features of residential styles and culture with its long history. The Kiln Courtyard of Western Henan (KCWH) is a great example to demonstrate the excellence of traditional residence. KCWH started to build thousands of years ago. During the long time of evolving of KCWH, it always use the surrounding building materials adapting local climate and physical conditions. Therefore, KCWH could be the sustainably ecological building form with the ability of adaption. Whereas presently those forms of traditional residence are endangered because of modern building culture. Regarding of that, suitability strategies are necessary to apply on those traditional residence in order to inherit the merits of them.This paper takes kiln courtyard in the ShanXian of western Henan as research object. It will be analyzed that how the kiln courtyard would response to adaption technology. The author also will discuss the pattern to preserve KCWH by the following terms:current situations, problems analyses, protecting strategies, case study. Finally, according to the discussion about how the traditional residence would develop in the future, the paper provides the suitable methods to improve modern residence conditions and environment.
