In the course of the responsibility confirmation for road traffic accidents, the identification of vehicle velocity when accident occurred is often an important basis for accident confirmation..The identification of the accident velocity is a key link of evidence chain to form the accident process. It also provides the evidence to the working agency whether the driver violates the traffic regulations for controlling the vehicle velocity. There are many formulas for the calculation of the accident vehicle velocity. Therefore, the reasonable formulas should be chosen based on the accident status and the acquired information, as well as the actual situation. The paper firstly discusses the dynamic models and the solutions for the vehicle front face, rear end, side face, slanted side collision base on the theory of the collision mechanics. It describes how to identify the accident vehicle velocity and the collision angle based on the model simplification, the original survey case information, the theoretical analysis, the measurement and calculation for dealing with the complicated accidents. The common and useful formulas are analyzed based on the classical collision mechanics and the property of vehicle collision accident. The application range, parameter selection and effect of the formulas are studied in detail. The paper considers that the many factors affect the vehicle movement simultaneously for actual collision accidents. The results of velocity identification may be verified by many calculation methods. The conclusion could be made by the research and analysis that the vehicle velocity should be calculated based on the brake trace and the skid trace at first, and then verified by the falling things for the accidents that have clear brake trace and skid trace, and a lot of falling things.
