The main objective of this research is to design and develop micro turning unit for processing miniaturized components, which can be used as a module to construct desktop factory. Through comprehensive investigations of the key issues of miniaturization of machine tools, a reasonable design is proposed. At the same time, the performance analysis and optimization for the key components and the overall structure of the micro lathe are carried out, and the micro lathe's optimization, design method and the lathe overall performance improving methods are explored.The main work completed in this paper involves:1.The design scheme of micro lathe is accomplished as well as the parameters of the key parts are determined, also,3-D model is built up.2. The dynamic and static analyses of electric spindle, linear guide and the micro lathe's whole structure are carried out.3. The structure optimization analyses of the central frame and lathe bed are performed, and the reasonable structure sizes are obtained.4. The design of the micro lathe is improved based on dynamic analysis and optimization.
