Inositol, cyclohexanhexol, C6H12O6, is white crystalline powder, odorless, sweet and easily soluble in water which has 9 isomers and there are several methyl derivatives. Large number of clinical and medical studies have shown that inositol can treat liver cirrhosis, fatty liver, hepatitis and various vitamin deficiencies. In addition, inositol has the function of hypoglycemic effect, anti-inflammatory, anti-edema and enhancement of the sarcosine preservation. For the past few years, the hypoglycemic effect of inositol has become a hot spot, in which inositol, D-chrio-inositol, D-pinitol and 5-O-methyl-myo-inositol were studied more.At present, inositol is extracted mainly from legumes, however, Other species of higher plants that contain plenty of inositol are studied fewer. It is very important for the use of inositol to find plants that contain more inositol and are maked use of easier. In this thesis, the inositol content of 20 families 60 species of plants was analyzed. The hypoglycemic effect of inositol extracted from plants was studied by the long and short term hypoglycemic experiments of mice to search the best combination of several plants with high content of inositol. The results were as follows:1. It could effectively eliminate the interference of other substances such as glucose and was easy to measure and separate inositols by high performance liquid chromatography that using 80%to extract and pretreat inositols of plants. The high performance liquid chromatography analysis conditions of inositol was NaOH solution (A solution 100mm 0~10min, Bsolution 500mm 10-40min), Pulsed amperometry detection, 0.4ml/min, injection volume 25μL.2. The plants which contained more D-pinitol were chickweed, locust leaves, cerastium viscosum L., clover, purple clover and ginkgo leaf. The plants which contained more D-chiro-inositol were dandelion and gambleana spicebush root and leaf. The plants which contained more ononitol were locust, ginkgo and cerastium viscosum L.. The plants which contained more myo-inositol were dandelion, Japan-ese, persimmon leaves and mulberry leaves.3. The extracted inositol was analyzed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The result showed that the NMR Spectroscopy of the extracted inositol was the same as that of pure inositol and the extracted inositol had a high degree of chemical purity. It had higher extraction rate and was very important for the edible aspect of plants that extracting inositol from the plants decoction.4. For the long and short term hypoglycemic experiment, the inositol, D-chiro-inositol, D-pinitol,D-Ononitol had good effect. (1)During the short term hypoglycemic experiment, the blood glucose decreased 19.2% in 2 hours when the dose of inositol was 100mg/kg. While the blood glucose decreased 21.1%when the dose of D-chiro-inositol was 50mg/kg.15.7%decline, 100mg/kg D-pinitol, and 29.6% decline, 100mg/kg D-Ononitol in 2 hours. (2)During the long term hypoglycemic experiment, the blood glucose decreased 25.2% in 15 days when the dose of inositol was 15mg/kg. While the blood glucose decreased 45.6%and 49.8% respectively, when the dose of D-chiro-inositol was 10 mg/kg and 15mg/kg.52.5% and 47.4 decline, 10mg/kg and 15mg/kg D-pinitol, and 29.6%decline,15mg/kg D-Ononitol in 15 days.5. During the long term hypoglycemic experiment of the plants decoction, the boiled liquid of ash leaves, dandelion, honeysuckle and the mixture of the three had significant hypoglycemic effect. The highest dose (100g/100ml) of ash leaf of decoction reduced blood glucose levels within 15 days,45.5%. The middle(50g/100ml) and high (100mg/100ml) dose groups of dandelion decoction decreased blood glucose levels within 15 days 46.3% and 43.5% respectively. The high dose group of honeysuckle decoction decreased blood glucose levels 33.7% within 15 days. The high dose of decoction of three plants reduced blood glucose levels by 51% within 15 days.
