Research Of Data Collection System For Forest Resources Based On PDA

With the fast development of the computer,"3S" technology, and wireless communications, the mobile geographic information system (GIS) data collection system based on embedded technology, wireless network communications and GPS positioning technology has been matured. Traditional forestry field data collection methods can not meet the rapid updating of forest resource data and management requirements, it is imperative that research on the portable data acquisition system based on the mobile terminal equipment. In recent years, "Digital Forestry" has been building orderly, in order to achieve the goal which the full survey of forest resources is paperless and effectively, a means of using PDA and other mobile devices scientific and effectively which used in the survey of forest resources, navigation, planning and design, decision support, and data acquisition etc.Compared to the existing methods of spatial data collection, combined with forest resources data collection features and application requirements, we proposed the solution of forest resources data collection which based on PDA and using mobile GIS, wireless communications, and GPS technology.At first,the thesis analyzes the popular solution of data collection based on mobile device, puts forward an new solution.then introduces the theory and technique background such as methods of spatial data acquisition, embedded system, mobile GIS, wireless communication,GPS,and PDA, and analysis the characteristics and methods of forest resource data collection based on mobile device, and PDA applications.we study the design of the forest resource data collection system based on PDA,from the aspects of system analysis,system design,database design and functional design etc,and encoding implementation of the main functions,such as PDA data collection system functions which encoding on the development platform of VS2005,and using C++ programming language, data management system functions achieves with C# and ArcGIS Engine 9.3 components. Finally, we make conclusion, analyze its characteristics and problems, and prospect the whole system.The forest resources data acquisition system based on PDA is not only easy to carry but also position accurately, change the traditional forestry field data collection mode, which greatly improved the work efficiency.It is a good example to other field data collection.
