The shrub-herbs in and neighboring Chinese pine forests under different interference, Guandi Coal Mining Area, Taiyuan, Shanxi, were studied by using surface soil evaluation methods in Landscape Function Analysis(LFA) combined with quantitative ecology.Soil Stability Index(SI), Soil Infiltration Index(II), Soil Nutrient Cycling Index(NI) decreased as interference increased. The classification of shrub-herb plots by TWINSPAN under different interference, (1) 75 shrub-herb plots were divided into 4 groups being 4 associations under mild interference, including 1 group in the forest,3 groups neighboring the forest; (2) 75 shrub-herb plots were divided into 4 groups being 4 associations under moderate interference,1 group in the forest,3 groups neighboring the forest; (3) 75 shrub-herb plots were divided into 13 groups being 13 associations under severe interference,9 groups in the forest, 4 groups neighboring the forest. This Associations represent types of the shrub-herbs in and neighboring the forests in this area. The plots ordination by CCA under mild and moderate interference better reveal that Soil Nutrition Cycling Index is the dominant factor of distribution of the shrub-herbs in this area.By Patrick index, Simpson index, Shannon-Wiener index and Pielou index, Species diversity of the shrub-herbs was analyzed under different interference. The results showed:The dynamics of Simpson index was similar to Pielou index. The dynamics of Shannon-Wiener index was similar to Patrick index. Patrick index, Simpson index and Shannon-Wiener index of the communities were higher in the forests than neighboring under mild and moderate interference. The Patrick index, Simpson index and Shannon-Wiener index of the herb layer were higher than that of the shrub layer. Species diversity of the shrub-herbs was the highest under moderate interference, however, it was different in "intermediate disturbance hypothesis", that the evenness of species resulted in the highest of species diversity.By Shannon-Wiener index and Pianka overlap index, niche of the dominant populations was researched under different interference. The results showed:niche breadth of Rosa xanthina was in the first place neighboring the forest under mild interference and in the forest under moderate interference. Niche breadth of Myripnois dioica being one of the single-dominant shrub was in the second place in the forest under severe interference. Niche breadth of Salix matsudana being one of the single-dominant shrub and growing in the bare land was smaller. Niche overlaps between the populations of shrub in and neighboring the forest under mild interference were the highest. Niche overlaps between the populations were higher in the forest than neighboring under moderate interference. Niche overlaps were generally smaller in and neighboring the forest under severe interference. Niche breadths of most dominant populations were the highest under moderate interference, the smallest under severe interference. Niche breadth of the dominant shrub-Rosa xanthina neighboring the forest increased as interference decreased, which was result from it adoptive to different interference in Guandi Coal Mining Area.
