Land is the important resource and basic material on which human's survival and development depend. With the rapid expansion of the world's population, urbanization, industrialization, constantly deepening of the extent and depth of land utilization, led to the great land cover changes, causing a series of resources, environment, social and economic problems. In recent years, by combining land use changes and landscape patterns research, which had been caught widespread attention in academic field, it is great significant to maintain region ecosystem balance, to improve environment, to strengthen land resource conservation, to achieve sustainable development of land resource With the development of landscape ecology, using landscape pattern analysis method to study land use structure and its evolution has become effective technical means at present.Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou were chosen for the study areas in this paper. Based on the RS and GIS technology support, landscape metrics, gradient analysis and spatial interpolation were used to analyze the gradient changes features in the study areas in the view of landscape-level and class-level. It's aimed at providing reference for land use planning and industrial composition and adjustment in these districts. The results were as follows:1,The landscape is divided into 5 types:forest, grassland, water, cultivated land and construction land for gradient analysis in the study areas. The area with synonyms spectrum were sampling respectively. It can resolve the classification problem of areas with synonyms spectrum. Cultivated land is the main land use types in the study areas. Suzhou has a great proportion of forest and water, and the water is also densy. On the contrary, Changzhou is composed of the construction land and farmland.2,General and gradient features of landscape pattern are consistent in terms of complexity. It's Suzhou>Wuxi>Changzhou. The variations of PD, ED, SHDI, SHEI, AWMPI and AWMPFD along the transects are cardinally identical, which are increasing first, and then decreasing with increasing of the distance to the city center. The result of 2gradient analysis suggests that the landscape changed greatly in the areas of urban fringe and urban-rural hinges. The diversity of landscapes and fragmentation of patches increased accordingly. The abnormal variation of the landscape metrics curves are due to forest and water. The lawn has little effect on landscape pattern.3,The distribution maps of landscape metrics can performance the citys' spatial form well. The PLAND distribution maps of construction Land reveal the spatial structure of circle features, containing urban core areas, urban-rural transition areas and rural areas. City construction land tends to expand along the major transport routes and the directions with less natural obstacle from the city to the suburbs. The construction land of Suzhou and Wuxi are showing fan-shaped distribution and the administrative boundary as a variety of terrain constraints, of land for construction with the restraint of terrain and boundary. The construction land of Changzhou is showing concentric distribution due to less obstacles. At the same time the three cities had the trend of multi-core development.
