Plant community forms the basic unit of green belt. It has played a great role in improving urban ecological environment and promoting coordination between man and nature. This paper studies 42 comparatively stable plant communities in 3 Nantong city parks. Taking the structure of plant community into account, the author measures the species diversity aginst species richness index (G), SimPson diversity index (D) and Shannon-Wiener diversity index(H') and Pielou evenness index (J), and analyses the composition of plant community in the sample plot.The main results are as follows:LThere are totally 105 species of plants belonging to 56 families,86 genera in the main park plant communities, which accounts for 57.1% of families, 5.2% of genera and 4.5% of species that the plants in Jiangsu Province can be classified into. Gymnosperms can be classified into 6 families,10 genera of and 15 species; angiosperm can be classified into 50 families and 76 genera,90 species. There are 49 species of trees,43 species of shrubs and 13 species of herbs. The 42 plant communities are divided into eight types, of which zonal type is mainly mixed conifer type, accounting for 42.9% of the total communities. AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method is used in the comprehensive evaluation of 12 plant communities. The comprehensive assessment of the visual quality and the eco-efficiency of them show that only plant community is up to grade plantscape standard, accounting for 8.3% of the total number of evaluated communities landscape. The comprehensive assessment index of the natural plant communities in the parks boasting of longer history is significantly higher than that of the artificial plant communities.
