The K21 landslide of western coastal expressway on Zhuhai section is located in the northern part of Zhuhai. It is a large and complex engineering landslide, which was formed by many times of collapse after the excavation of the repairing expressway. Because of people's limited understanding of the formation lithology, the weathering interface and the structural plane, the landslide slips for many times and people repair it once the slide happens, so that the landslide expands in size gradually. It has posed such a grave threat to road transit operation and the safety of people's life and wealth that it odds to be repaired immediately. This paper analyses and studies the landslide mechanism and the landslide management engineering on the background of the K21 landslide of western coastal expressway on Zhuhai section.According to the characteristics of regional geological data and investigation data, this paper has analyzed the geological environment, the sliding process, the sliding mechanism, and the stability of the K21 landslide of western coastal expressway on Zhuhai section. The development of the landslide can be divided into three stages, this landslide can be divided into four landslide area, and the thickness of landslide body showed changes significantly in space. The landslide has multi-layer, multi-level, multiple sliding characteristics.Through the field physiognomy morphological characteristics, the drilling materials, the deflection shape of the landslide and the mating analysis of the structural plane, this paper has deduced multi-stratums of the landslide and calculated the surplus sliding force of the typical sections on each landslide subarea. Then it puts forward comprehensive management measures, which has integrated slide-reducing engineering and anti-slide engineering. Moreover, it demonstrates the practicability of these measures, calculates the anchor cable pulling force and anti-slide pile internal force, has finished the design of anchor cable frame and anti-slide pile with anchor cable, and uses the finite elements software to perform the numerical simulation analysis of the landslide management measures. It also demonstrates the good effect of the anti-slide engineering. The paper has not only put forward requirements and attention-needed matters to the constructive crafts of landslide management engineering in detail but also arranged effective monitoring to the landslide.The geological record of anti-slide management and the analysis of the deep hole monitoring result have confirmed that the inference of the sliding surface is logical and the management measures are safe and effective. At present, the landslide has reached a stable situation.
