With the development of science and technology, the human exploration of natural environment became more and more frequent. As the interaction area of the land and marine, the river basin and estuary has great environmental diversity, biodiversity and ecosystem sensitivity. Following the human activities in the river basin, the material output from basin are becoming complicated, such as the more and more pollutants, sediments and nutrients, etc. Its impact on the marine environment should not be ignored. Furthermore, estuary is located in the delta area of marine, and usually has the advantage of geographical position, the rich water, oil and gas resources, the port resources and so on. Because of its important economic status, the human activities have a great influence on the estuary. In this case, lots of governments, organizations and relevant scholars paid attention to the ecological security issues of river basin and estuary. The way to realize the rational exploitation of natural resources, to protect natural environment, and to realize the harmony between human and nature has become a hot research spot.In recent years, the development of GIS and RS has provided a new technology for the research of ecological security issues. GIS and RS produced many new ideas for the data manipulation and the evaluation results of ecological security. Using Dayang River as test area, an ecological security evaluation system in 3D scene for river basin and estuary has been designed and realized by Skyline as 3D GIS platform,SuperMap as 2D GIS platform.Firstly, the paper introduced relevant knowledge of system,the theme's background and significance, the domestic and foreign relevant research progress, and the structure of paper.Secondly, it elaborated the architecture, technical route, software platform and function modules of the system.Then introduced the characteristics and the management mode of the prepared data for system.It used Dayang River basin and estuary ecological security evaluation as example, specified the methods and effect of system from following aspects: the 3d scene, the basic situation of river basin and estuary, the pollution risk evaluation for basin, the ecological health evaluation for estuary wetland and the ecological security evaluation for estuarine waters.Finally, it enumerated the main work and existing problems of system.
