| Today the human society has moved into the era of knowledge economics from the industrial economics era. Knowledge has become the most important factor in enterprises, which reduces the dependence of enterprise on the natural resources greatly. Meanwhile technology innovation (hereafter named TI) has become a method with which the enterprises improve their core competence and gain advantages in competition. But in general the performance of TI in our country is not satisfactory. Thus it is meaningful practically to give a study on how to improve the ability of TI in the new era.The theory of knowledge management (hereafter named KM) is a new concept and method appeared in the late 1990's with the coming of knowledge economics era. It is an overall management on the process of knowledge obtains, integration, refines, transmits, sharing and application, with the aim to provide the right knowledge to the one who needs it in the proper time for the best decisions. So what is the relationship between KM and the ability of TI? What kind of function does KM play in the forming of enterprise's TI ability? How can the enterprise improve the ability of TI by KM? All these questions must be resolved for the further study.The thesis has four chapters. The first chapter points out the necessity on the study. And then it gives a review on the related study about TI ability and KM as well as the frame of the thesis.In the second chapter, the thesis discusses the features of knowledge economics and its' impact on TI. Further it argues that TI is based on knowledge in the new era, which means the innovation process is a flow of knowledge. Consequently it divides the innovation process into three stages, including the forming of innovation ideas, technological development and economic development.
