In the past few years, the airlines operations in all parts of the world have all experienced the worst downturns and depressions of all times since the industry started. Affected by the continuous threats of SARS, Iraqi war and the soaring oil price immediately after the 9.11 terrorist attack, the airline industry has been suffering a great passenger loss and shocking cost rise, which has trapped the industry in the most difficult situation.Despite the successive crises in the airline industry, there also exist opportunities for its development and growth. The author of the paper believes there is a close correlation between the industry operations and the global economic trend. According to the prediction by experts, the world economy is expected to enjoy a continuous upturn in the years to come, which may hopefully give rise to a recovery which furthermore is leading to a full scale development in the airline industry.The author of this thesis works for Air China, the only company that is honored with entitlement to flying with the National Flag onboard in China and which also means a sacred commitment to flourishing the Number One state-run corporation. In face of the opportunities and risks coexisting at the present, Air China's focus is on how to seize every chance to adjust its strategies and reconstruct the company's business model, improve operating ability and strengthen management for lower cost and higher efficiency, so as to advance the company's brand image while maintaining the sustainable profitibility.To realizing the goals, the writer recommends a quantitative approach to the finding, analyzing and resolving of the problems, so as to guaranttee the scientific managements within the company.
