As primary infrastructure of the country, ports have been built and managed by public sectors for a long time. However, with port privatization and development of port economy, plus improvement of port economic characteristics and change of transportation organization worldwide, Chinese ports have been fully aware that outdated terminal equipment and infrastructure has become the "barrier" for their development. Chinese ports must regulate and reform their investment and management system, improve overall function of ports in order to be in cope with change of ports worldwide.This Article includes five parts. The first part expounds the port's connotation and development characteristic and trend of port economy, from which we know that traditional ports fail to meet itself and social development requirement due to their single function. Therefore, China ports must develop towards multipurpose functions.The second part analyzes the present situation and trends of ports in China. Currently, issues like outdated port infrastructure and shortage of professional large deep water berths restrict development of economy and foreign trade. However development trends for future ports are deep water construction, style arrangement, business in logistics, information management and privatized operation, among which port privatized operation is a key part in port management system and have significant influence on future port development.The third and fourth parts start from the connotation of port privatization, describe the reason, analyze the theory of port privatization, and positively state the benefits of port privatization. After analyzing system restriction on port development and learns from international experience of port privatization, the article put forwards the main pattern and methods for port privatization and makes comparison among these methods.The fifth part analyzes the problems faced by China ports in privatization and puts forward the measures and proposals to port privatization progress in our country.At present, ports development in China is in difficulty, privatization is one of effective solutions. It has been proved that privatization can push port development in China strongly, further more, this article also puts forward measures of port privatization in China. Therefore it is feasible to push Chinese ports development through port privatization management.
