What is an urban area? An urban area may be defined by the number of residents, the population density, the percent of people not dependent upon agriculture, or the provision of such public utilities and services as electricity and education. The urbanization is the process which includes two aspects, one is the movement of population from the village to the city, and engagement in the non- agricultural work in the city; The other is the transformation of rural lifestyle to city lifestyle, includes value view, the manner, and the behavior. Presently, China is in the process of fast urbanization, but the urbanization level is very low since the big-scale urbanization of China started very late. There will be many economic and social problems in the urbanized process accompanying the High-speed growth of economy of China, as the urban population grows quickly but the city infrastructure insufficient, how the city digest so large migrants.On the basis of the existing theory, this article analyzes the present situation of Chinese urbanization, proposes some questions that are already and will be met in the fast urbanization. Then according to the related principles and the society's development situation, express the author's opinion. Reviewing the history of Chinese urbanization, we can see the characteristic of Chinese urbanization lies in the lack of close contact with the economical development. Small city once was considered the Chinese characteristic path of urbanization. But China's urbanization now is already under new international background and the new social situation. Based on it's new development foundation, new developing environment, and new developing stimulus, the present strategy of urbanization should be the big city strategy.The big-city development pattern conforms to the requirement of...
