Transportation is the important component part of the national economy. Railway is the most influential way of transportation in developing the regional economy. Xin-Chang railway, whose main body is in Jiangsu Province, is a main artery of transportation between north and south. Its entire length is 634. 5km. It had begun to be built during "the Ninth Five-Year Plan" and was finished in "the Tenth Five-Year Plan". The whole railway line has been opened to traffic, which not only ended the period when there' re no railways in the hinterland of Jiangsu Province, but also will have an important influence on the regional economy development in Jiangsu.The paper mainly analyzed the influences upon the regional economy development in Jiangsu Province brought by the open of Xin-Chang railway line from four aspects.1. With the regional economy development along Xin-Chang railway line, the present "二" regional economy' s spatial structure in Jiangsu formed by the south and the north industrial belts will be changed into the "I" spatial structure, which is taken shape by the link-up of the above two belts and the Xin-Chang developing axis.2.The open of Xin-Chang railway line will have the following macro influences upon the regional economy development : (1)to improve accessibility; (2)to speed up industrialization; (3)to advance urbanization; (4)to promote tourism; (5)to develop circulation.3. Taking Huaian as an example, the paper inquired into the influences upon the economic development in the "joint-point" along the line, which is caused by the open of Xin-Chang railway line.4. It also put forward an imagine to build economic coordinated belt along Xin-Chang railway line (the section of Jiangsu Province). It analyzed the possibility, emphasized the significance, expounded the regional situation and suggested some measures.
