Abstract/Summary:
Playing an important role in knowledge economy, human resource has been a key to create competitive superiority. How to develop human resource management in a strategic level is becoming a hot issue to entrepreneurs. The core problem in human resource management is how to manage and develop the key employees.A key employee competency model has been put forward, which is popular in Europe. It is a new management tool in hotels' human resource management, and can help them solve many difficult problems. With the help of the feasible competency model, the hotels could recognize key employees and realize the business strategy effectively. Hence it is beneficial for solving a series of human resource management problems, i.e. HR hunting, training, performance appraisal, rewards management, HR development, HR career planning. All the efforts are made to improve thecomprehensive performance of the hotels.To guarantee the reliability and authenticity of the model, empirical research is used to analyze the whole procedure, namely the method and process. It is based on a five-star hotel in Qingdao. By the behavioral event interview, we can acknowledge the excellent traits in key employees, which are the chief parts of the competency model. Then, the author verifies the competency model through questionnaires, which are carried out in ten star-rated hotels in Qingdao-three star to five star hotels. Finally, the author discusses the use of the competency model in the human resource management and the support system that it need. All in all, the competency model can help building core competitiveness and realizing sustainable development. Meantime, it is a practical tool for human resource management and can guide schools who cultivate students specializing in tourism and hotel management.
