At present, third-party logistics companies in China have not made full use of theirspecial place in the supply chain and their advantages in information resources and theservices they provide are at a comparatively lower level. Based on the studies of theinformation value added services, this thesis proposes ways to make the most of theadvantages and information resources in third-party logistics companies so as to increasetheir competitiveness and that of their clients, and make the whole supply chain moreefficient.In recent years, there is an increasing demand for high quality third-party logisticsservices, especially the information services. Clients are less and less satisfied with theindiscriminate services and the costs-based competition. This has become a "bottleneck" inthe development of third-party logistics. On the other hand, with the further segmentation ofthe logistics market, there is a trend of specialization in third-party logistics companies'operations, and the information held by these companies is much more centralized.Moreover, the basic information systems in some large-scale logistics companies have takenshape, which lay a sound foundation for them to provide information value added services.Third-party logistics information value added services solution is proposed based on clients'demand and the current situations in third-party logistics companies.The thesis first gives the definition, features and current development of third-partylogistics information value added services, and proposes the three levels of third-partylogistics services, and the place of information value added services. Then it sets forth thefunctions of the third-party information value added services in modern logistics, andanalyzes customers' demand for information value added services. Based on the analysis ofthe prerequisites of information value added services, the thesis designs and analyzes thethird-party logistics information value added services system. This system is described fromfour aspects: logic module, function module, implementation procedure, and organizationalsupport. Then, a case study of a large-scale third-party logistics company in China is given toshow the application of this information value added service system. Last, the thesisindicates the problems that have to be noticed in the application of third-party logisticsinformation value added services, gives suggestions, and shows the prospect of third-partylogistics information value added services.
