Industrial Cluster Theory Applied Research In The Development Of Shanghai Shipping Industry

In recent years, industrial clusters have played more and more important role in regional and even global economic development worldwide, industrial clusters are a new economic organization in current world economy. Enterprises within a cluster would gain economy of scale and scope by communicating and cooperating with each other. Industrial clusters can also lead to competitiveness, and this will promote the economic development there. So I want to make a trial use of the theory into shanghai shipping industry so as to find the shortages and problems of shanghai shipping industry. What's more, I am willing to explain some cluster-based policies to help shanghai overcome its shortages in the coming future.This dissertation elaborates the concept, causation, condition and mechanism of industrial clusters and etc. Then, this dissertation points out the following reasons why industrial clusters can bring competitiveness: the industrial cluster can muster its resources and increase the utilization ratio of its resources, can bring economy of scale and economic efficiency of scope, and can reduce the cost of transaction and negotiation among enterprises within the industrial cluster. On theory, this dissertation expounds the reason why such competitiveness takes shape. Given analysis, we discover that the shipping industry is clustering in Shanghai. Based on the conditions wherein the industrial clusters take forms, we expound that in Shanghai, the shipping industry has the basic conditions to be clustered and such clustering embryonic forms has come into being. This dissertation gives further analysis to the development of the industrial clusters in Shanghai by using the clustering theory, analyses and explains the disadvantages and causes of the shipping industry in Shanghai. In addition, this dissertation comprehensively analyses the porter's "Diamond Model" and its upgraded "GEM Model", and based on the reality of the shipping clusters and other scholar's summarization on the shipping industry, we design ascientific and rational index system for the evaluation of the competitiveness of shipping industrial clusters. Also in this dissertation, we also give quantitative analysis of the five shipping industrial clusters in Shanghai to find out the disadvantages in the development of the shipping industrial clusters. Based on the disadvantages and the development of the shipping industries in Shanghai, this dissertation puts forward the corresponding measures to enhance the competitiveness of the shipping industry in Shanghai. At last, this dissertation points out the government's status and position in the development of the shipping industry of Shanghai with a view to provide the theoretical support and grounds of policy making for the development of the shipping industrial clusters in Shanghai.
