Human resource management is going to the core of the management in the 21st century. As the foundation of motivation mechanism, performance appraisal system is considered to be the most important and challenging fields of human resource management. However, the performance appraisal system doesn't work so well in local corporations. They cannot achieve the prospective effects despite a great deal of time and efforts in that there are short of scientific appraisal criterion and methods. Sometimes it even brings the unfair feeling to the employees. This article aims to bring up a practicable performance appraisal model from the technological and implementing aspects. Some advises are put forward to enhance the corporations' competition through improving their performance management.The article involves:The first chapter introduces the research background, research purpose and the studying structure.Chapter 2 analyzes the general situation of performance management both in and out of the country. It explains why we need performance appraisal system and gives some related concepts.Chapter 3 completely analyzes the principles, functions and current problems of performance appraisal system, as is the foundation of performance management and the most important part of the human resource management.Chapter 4 contrasts the kinds of performance appraisal methods and abstracts both the advantages and disadvantages of each appraisal methods, and explains the application situation of each appraisal methods pertinently, aiming to choose the fittest one reasonably for different companies.Chapter 5 brings up a practicable performance appraisal model, integrating several general appraisal methods, to improve the performance management. And gives the example to introduce the whole process of this model.The last chapter summarizes the whole article, and gives the illumination of performance appraisal job.
