Study Of The Role Of Third-party Logistics In The Supply Chain

As a wholly new stage of the logistics management, SCM extends its management scope from intra-organization to inter-organization, and transform its management form from traditional inner administrations to the cooperation and coordination among the organizations. In the process of the development of the SCM, it requires more from the 3PLs, and it needs the 3PLs to contribute more to the SCM.This dissertation mainly concerns the functions the 3PLs should exert in the SCM. Logically, the dissertation analysis the issue as following:Firstly, the dissertation testifies that the development of 3PLs and the development of SCM are inter-active. It must require more from the 3PLs when the SCM develops at certain stage. At the same time, it also offers more rooms for the development of the 3PLs.Secondly, the dissertation deeply testifies that the member of the supply chain eagerly needs a lot from the 3PLs by the analysis of the data of a report issued by a logistics association. What's more, this dissertation bravely forecast the future development model of the 3PLs.Thirdly, the dissertation deeply analyses the key issue: how can the 3PLs exert more function in the SCM. Three ways are discussed in the dissertation: participating in the designing and planning of the logistics system of the member of the supply chain; supplying customized logistics information system for the member of the supply chain; and supply innovated value-added service for the member of the supply chain.Finally, the dissertation analyses the difficulties that may be confronted by the 3PLs when they act in the supply chain. Also, the dissertation put forward some solutions for these problems.
