Information reliance has become a trend for the development of modern animal husbandry as well as an inevitable road to the sustainable growth of animal husbandry along with a rising percentage of animal husbandry output value in the gross agricultural total. The degree of information reliance determines the depth and width of animal husbandry development in China. Proceeding from the significance of developing information-based animal husbandry in China, the paper expounds the current situation of information reliance in animal husbandry: Inadequate information infrastructure, deficient and inferior network resources, small information demand, impeded information supply, and vigor-lacking, poor-developed information market. Also discussed in the paper are such issues as inadequate information infrastructure, deficient and inferior network resources, small information demand, impeded information supply, vigor-lacking and poor-developed information market, and poor information service quality, with the reasons for such issues being analyzed in detail. The paper emphatically explains the current situation and common characteristics of information-based animal husbandry in developed countries, and on the basis of summing up and drawing on foreign experiences in information development, suggests that the development of information-based animal husbandry lies in information theoretical research, information resources development and utilization, information infrastructure building, information-based animal farm production and management, and information service. The following measures should be adopted by governments at various levels in an active manner: Attach great importance to information-based animal husbandry development, information infrastructure construction, and information resources development and utilization, make great efforts to push forward animal husbandry industrialization, and quicken and perfect information service in animal husbandry.
