Hospitality industry is one of the toursm’s three pillars. High star-level hotels in Shanghai have developed for30 years from the reform and opening up policy, their dev eloping quatities and management efficiency both rank the top in the whole nation. Wi th the further progress of shanghai tour industry, the business of high star-level hotels will acquire new opportunities of development again. The studying object, in this thesis, will be concerned with the hotels which have already reached or exceeded the average land price of a standard luxury hotel. In resea rch contents, this essay regards every5 years as a time scale, presenting the changing r ules of numbers, scales, management features and spatial structures of hotels during1995 to2015. Meanwhile, spatial distribution patterns of Shanghai high star-level hotels are analyzed and summarized by using ARCGIS. In the end, this thesis probes into the main influential factors of the distribution of high star-level hotels through using spatial analysis function of ARCGIS.In addition, it comes up with the main problems and optimization measures of their de velopment. The following is the main conclusion:Firstly, the time evolution characteristics of high star-level hotel in Shanghai:(1)View from quantity change trend, the number of high star-level hotel increases slowly before 2005, fast from 2005 to 2010, slightly slower after 2010.And the high star-level hotel development stage can be divided into slow development stage, rapid development stage and stable development stage by change tendency.(2) View from the hotel properties, the number of international hotel group is largest, growing fastest, and always to the most dominates; the number of domestic hotel group is smallest but growing rapidly; the number of the hotel owner proprietary is middle, growing stably.Secondly, the spatial evolution characteristics of high star-level hotel in Shanghai:(1) View from the number of hotel, high density area is always in the heart of the city, but the trend towards suburban diffusion is noticeable.(2) View from the density of the hotel, average density of high star-level hotel in districts and counties of Shanghai is very different, but has diminishing trend.(3) View from function zoning, the number of high star-level hotel is very differentin function zonings, but the total number and distribution is basically consistent with the function.Thirdly, the evolution model of spatial distribution high star-level hotel in Shanghai:(1)In the early-term development, in the more developed economies of the city center formed ore area, overall is "dot” like dense distribution.(2)In the medium-term development, the number of the hotel in city center continues to increase, Continued to spread from the core zone to the surrounding area, density differences are significant in each district, formed a "film" like distribution.(3)Currently, spatial distribution of the high star-level hotel gradually mature, density differences of hotels in counties and districts is narrowing, gradually formed the "net" like distribution.Fourthly, present situation analysis on spatial distribution of high star-level hotel:(1)Regional distribution uneven, the vast majority of high-star hotel is located in the central urban areas with higher level of economic development.(2)Overall layout formed a ‘high concentration within the inner ring, relatively uniform between the inner ring and the outer ring, sparse outside the outer ring’ ‘Ring’like distribution.(3)Higher degree of agglomeration, and Integrally formed a high density polar region and a secondary compact region.
