Wideband radar technology is common technique of warning, guidance, fire-control and reconnaissance radar. It has potentially andavanced performance at infromation obtaining, target recognition, anti-interference and anti-reconnaissance. It is an important research field in modern radar technology.The assumption of traditional radar theroy is not suitable for wide-band radar with improved band of radar. So the wideband radar has many new theory and technology problems and the traditional radar detection strategy can't provide best performance in wideband radar any longer. In addition, many problems about wideband radar are still indistinct, for example, whether it exceeds conventional radar in detection performance. To solve such problems, we do the main work as follows:1. Target and clutter echo characteristics of wideband radar are studied. Single pulse and multi-pulse target echo are analyzed respectively. Amplitude statistic models of wideband clutter are probed and the correlations are analyzed using field sampled data.2. The wideband radar equation is analysed. The potential advantages in detection performance of bandwide radar compared to narrow-band radar are researched. The impact of bandwidth changes on wideband radar detection performance is studied. And the signal to clutter ratio of wideband radar is defined.3. The best receiver structure of wideband radar is proposed. Many traditional detection algorithms such as radial integration detection, M/N detection and GLRT detection of wideband radar are studied, and the comparative analysis have been done on the performanbe and characteristics of those algorithms.4. A new detection algorithm for wideband radar target via statistical property diversity is proposed. The corresponding four detectors are designed and their performances are comparative analyzed.5. A new detection algorithm for wideband radar target based on information entropy is proposed. The Shannon entropy detector and Renyi's quadratic entropy detector are designed respectively and their performances are comparative analyzed. 6. For the estimation of range cell window and multi-target double handing problem introduced by wideband radar detection, the corresponding processing algorithms are put forward.In this paper, the study of wideband radar target detection related issues is helpful to wideband radar system design and construction of wideband signal detection theory. The proposed two new detection algorithms are easy to project implementation and have better detection performance and stability, can effectively enhance the wideband radar detection capability.
