Wideband radar echo contains not only information that the existence of target, but also the position of target and so on. The function of the traditional narrow-band radar limited target detection, target distance and target speed, etc., but it can't get some fine features of the target. Wideband radar with high range resolution, it is not only narrow-band radar can be achieved with traditional features, but also make full use of information contained in target echoes to achieve the target classification, identification and imaging purposes.Wideband radar detection can give full play to wideband radar in the anti-interference, low intercept and anti-stealth, and other areas. However, wideband radar with high range resolution radar and wide frequency band, the traditional narrowband detection theory was no longer suitable for wideband radar, which requires the detection of new theories and methods. In this paper, firstly, the target radar cross section of the wideband and narrowband are discussed; then the wideband pulse echo characteristics of radar targets are analyzed. The narrowband radar detection theory and the classical detection method are studied systematically. Then the limits of the classical detection methods in the broadband radar detection are studied. The problem of wideband radar target detection in various noises by one pulse is researched. Many traditional detection algorithms such as direct energy integration detection, SSD-GLRT detection, M/N detection and information entropy detection are discussed in depth, and the comparative analysis have been done on the performance and characteristics of those algorithms.
