Mobile IPv6 Protocol provides mobility support for IPv6 network. When mobile nodes that using Mobile IPv6 move among different networks, they can use the same IPv6 addresses, and continue their network connections and application services. IETF has issued the specification of Mobile IPv6 protocol (RFC 3775), which standardizes the operation of Mobile IPv6 communication.New protocol often brings new security problems. The goal in designing Mobile IPv6 security is at least as secure as IPv4. This paper introduces the Mobile IPv6 protocol, and visualizes various kinds of attack towards the communication using Mobile IPv6. Then this paper investigates the security of the Mobile IPv6 protocol itself, and discusses the existing security protection techniques.Mobile IPv6 uses IPSec to protect the communications between Mobile Nodes and Home Agents,This paper introduces the method that using IPSec to protect Mobile IPv6 communications. Though IPSec provides high security performance, it has some limitations in the environment of Mobile IPv6. This paper investigates the limitations of IPSec and discusses Mobile Multi-layered IPSec which is the enhanced proposal of IPSec in the mobile environment.Mobile IPv6 Route Optimization eliminates the triangular routing problem existing between the mobile node and correspondent node in Mobile IP. However, Route Optimization brings some security threats about the authorization and authentication of Binding Update packet at the same time. Some security threats still exist in the Return Routability protocol and CGA-based protocol, Chapter 4 improves the CAM-DH protocol, proposes a new enhanced protocol, improved the security, and optimized the computation and message exchange performance. The standard handover in Mobile IPv6 cannot fullfil the need of some real-time services. Mobile IPv6 uses FMIPv6 to improve the handover performance. Chapter 5 discusses Return Routability in FMIPv6 environment, and proposes a method using the enhanced CAM-DH protocol in the fast handover environment. The new proposal improves the security of FMIPv6, and reduces the delay of generating new binding update key after handover. As a result, the enhanced CAM-DH protocol which in this paper can fullfil the need of real-time services.
