Data Acquisition System (DAS) is a system who convert analog signal to digital signal and then transform these data to some structure which the following process system needed by using an Analog-Digital-Converter (ADC), DAS is a key component of Software Radio, Portable Terminal, Digital Communication and automotive electronics. In this thesis, a DAS based on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), ADC, USB was discussed with Through the Wall Radar (TWR). Gives a whole process of design and implement an universal DAS, and then shown a data process software developed by VC++6.0, this can be a very good reference of an universal design, it includes such contents as:1. System Functional Analysis: Analyze the whole system, design the system scheme, to draw the proper conclusions by the applications that the system should contain FPGA, ADC and USB, and the working point of whole system, like SNR, SFDR, data width, data rate, etc.2. Designing and Debugging Hardware Platform: fulfills Chip Selections, periphery circuit of each Chip; complete PCB design, which include Place, Route, Power separation and Ground segmentation; accomplish Hardware Description Language (HDL) of FPGA, which contains Block Division, interface and implement of each block. Debugging Chip working-point and HDL code.3. Software Platform Design and Debug: designing software module by the function; Design software GUI; Design each interface of modules, that means entry function and return type; transform main process code from matlab language to VC++6.0, this contain a FIFO and key algorithm class encapsulation; Complete each module; Test and verify each module one by one followed by a verification of overall function; debug; amend the quality of software, that contains reduce memory consumption and CPU occupancy, and then do some human oriented design.4. TWR System testing: test the entire system in the application environment of TWR, that is detecting and tracing human motivation behind obstacles such as walls.
