The rapid development of science and technology promotes the reform of vocational education. It is worth studying the development of a multimedia courseware which can stimulate students'interest, and improve teaching efficiency to achieve the goal of innovation and quality education.This paper focuses on the development of the multimedia courseware Automatic Control Theory. Under the guidance of teaching theories, it analyzes the situation and the characteristics of this course, studies the multimedia teaching mode effectively, and explains the technical problems in the development process of the multimedia courseware. The positive role of this multimedia courseware will be shown on the promotion of teaching reform and the improvement of teaching quality.The characteristics of the multimedia course Automatic Control Theory is determined by the features of vocational education, because this courseware is designed for vocational education. The main platform adopts AUTHORWARE, and the auxiliary platform adopts FLASH, MATLAB. The overall structure and the main function of this courseware are designed by the main platform, such as the division of teaching modules and the design of hyperlinks between the modules. The partial function of the courseware and some details are made by auxiliary platform. According to the features of the actual control system, examples of practical engineering are introduced to the class, and the digital simulation technology which commonly used to analysis and design in the present control system is also applied to the teaching of the multimedia course Automatic Control Theory.This multimedia courseware Automatic Control Theory can increase the learning information and improve the teaching efficiency. It can also enhance the interaction in the class, and make the course more open and vivid. Using this multimedia courseware, students can understand and master the abstract theories easier, form the habit of independent thinking and get the ability of innovation. On the other hand, through the application of MATLAB in the class, students can master the digital simulation software MATLAB which commonly used in engineering practice and also broaden their knowledge.
