The signal source system is one kind instrument which can generate several kinds of signals and play an important role in the measurement field. The signal source system designed can generate arbitrary waveform and basic waveforms, such as sine wave, sawtooth wave and triangle wave. Besides, it can provide the power for the measured circuit and make it easy for the experimenters to finish their work. Virtual Instrument is one kind instrument system, which is on the basis of computer hardware and designed by the user. It contains the virtual panel and test function. It uses the computer monitor as the front panel of the instrument and makes full use of computer's powerful data analysis ability. It improves the equipment performance, reduces the costs and shortens the design period.First, this thesis introduces the basic concept of virtual instrument and the chief advantages compared with traditional measure system. Then it introduces virtual instrument software development method and implementation technique based on LabVIEW platform areemphatically demonstrated. A high preformance signal source system for test is designed using the LabVIEW and FPGA.The system designed includes the following several parts, upper program, the communication between the upper and the submodules (such as the FPGA and the I2C slaves), the communication inside the FPGA, signal generator and the power. The communication among the submodules is realized by means of USB. The upper is designed with LabVIEW. The communication is developed with USB chip CY7C68013A. This thesis finished the design of EZ-USB Firmware and USB driver. The signal source system is tested by the development board using the FPGA chip EP2C20484 produced by Altera company. Finally this thesis shows the simulation results about other module of the signal source system.
