Gaining popularity in the 90s of the 20th century, reality show is a fresh type of TV entertainment program. This article reviews the history, classification, and nature of the domestic reality shows, especially China's newly-emerged TV talk shows in the recent years that feature the mediation of family disputes, and analyzes the cultural and social backgrounds of such shows, as well as the reasons behind their sustained high TV ratings. Using Shanghai's renowned mediation talk show, The New Uncle Show, as a good example, the article elaborates on the complete process of the origination, the production, and the broadcasting of the show, and lists all kinds of the precautions that must be paid attention to the production, and gives a psychological analysis of the audience. Meanwhile, it reveals that the uniqueness of the show lies in the actual effectiveness of the mediation, which has a far-reaching repercussion in the public. What's more, the "New Uncle Show", a dispute mediator who often overshadows the influence of the show host, is a fresh quaint character on TV and performs a special social function. One of the article's objectives is to provide a creative way of thinking for the healthy development of the domestic TV reality shows.
