Public information is an information type that can be freely accessed by the whole community, encompassing many aspects of public life, and is in close relationship with public interest. The key to public information design is to fully utilize channels most accessible to the public, integrating a myriad of information, illustrating and releasing complex data information in visual,intuitive presentations. Traditionally, the distribution of public information has been relying on government and public affairs departments, while the public was placed at the terminal of the communication channel. Today, with the popularization of interactive media and various internet service, the communication channels of public information has been greatly extended. The interactive mode between the public and the government has also undergone huge transformation. Chapter 2 of this dissertation documented the history and conditions of public information design and analyze the design logic and interactive mode in visualized public information design backed by a large body of case studies. Addressing the future development of public information design, the dissertation focuses on the influence of internet interactive technology on public information design.The flourishing of internet interactive technology has fundamentally transformed the communication mode of public information, and has also subtle influence on public attitude and involvement. Chapter 3 centers debate around the topic of"public information 2.0", documenting the spread of internet services such as mini-blog, twitter, and stating the fact that such internet services has transformed the public from passive receiver to active distributor in public information and collaborators in public affairs, as a result the interaction between the public and the government has shown an adhesive trait.At the same time,public information is no longer shown in large body of texts and simple graphs, but is striking for a more visual, intuitive, and interactive representation.Visualization enable information to be communicated and shared more easily and clearly, and also allows for greater transparency about governmental and municipal affairs, fostering positive and mutual communication and engaging active participation of the public. Chapter 4 analyze the role of designers as bridge and translator between the public and the government.Addressing to the reality in China, it raises suggestions for the establishment of future operation frameworks of visualized interactive information design and a sustainable and recycling mode of information communication.
