Microwave integrate circuits are widely used in wireless communication, remote sensing and navigation. With the rapid development of large scale integrated circuit (LSI), vast large scale integrated circuit (VLSI), and package technology, the trend for electronic equipments is miniatrization, light weight and low cost, leading to a research on new material, new structure and new techniques.First of all, this thesis introduces the basic characteristic and working principle of substrate integrated artificial dielectric (SIAD) and analyzes this structure based on transmission theory. In order to ease fabrication and reduce cost, local substrate integrate artificial dielectric (L-SIAD) is put forward. Then, design formulas are derived for dual band L-SIAD transformer. This dual band L-SIAD transformer is realized by choosing different post diameters, while the post interspacing and strip width are unchanged. Besides, this thesis introduces the principle of impedance tapered lines and single section quadrature hybrid. After that, broad band transformer, impedance tapered lines, single and dual-band quadrature hybrid are designed and simulated. The results by simulation satisfy the design requirements, with size reduction of about 50%.Finally, broad band transformer and single band quadrature hybrid have been fabricated. The measured and simulated results agree well, indicating that L-SIAD is useful on microwave circuit miniaturization.
