With the reformation of our domestic electric power industry and the foundation of the electric power market, traditional thoughts, modes and strategies in daily management can't accommodate to the updating demands of power generation enterprises' development. To enhance the competition ability to the market, power plants starves for advanced conceptions and methods in management. Thus, the Supervisory Information System, SIS for short, which is based on the real-time process data of the Distributed Control System, has been widely introduced into daily management of each power plant to make the plant operate in a more sufficient and economical way.Taking the SIS project of Yangzhou No.2 Power Generation LLCO for example, this paper mainly describes both the history and outlook of SIS, the system structure, the functional demands, the technology of computer network and real-time database applied in SIS.From the view of practical application, it introduces the orientation of SIS in the power plant IT system, which group of users is SIS designed for, and the major function that the SIS brings. From the view of computer networks, it describes what kind of network is suitable for SIS, the basic principles to build such a network, why and how to select the Net Gate to enhance the security during data transfer from one zone to another. From the view of real-time database technology, RTD for short, detailed information is given on RTD function and how the raw process data from DCS is efficiently compressed to save disk space. As for further application development, instead of the basic CRT picture duplicating of industrial process, it gives a practical multi-layer structure model, the design of function modules and the relative IT technology used to design such a system.At last, the benefit of applying such a SIS system in Yangzhou No.2 Power Generation LLCO is evaluated. Lessons learned from this project and some practical advices on how to build SIS more efficiently are also given.
