With the advantages of rapider speed, stronger transport capacity, lower operating costs and smaller environmental pollution and so on, the electrified railway has became the railway modernization development orientation. The overhead catenary as one of the most important components in the electrified railway, the electric train attains power from contact wire by pantograph, it was frayed because of vibration ,distortion, different height to rail and so on. When it's over the extent, the wire will be broken, and it will cost 80 million every kilometer when it's entirely replaced, it causes the increased maintenance cost of the railway and the intermit of railway transport, and bring enormous loss .So, in order to prolong the use longevity of the contact wire and guarantee the safety of the electrified railway, it needs to offer a effective measurement for the geometry parameters of the electric contact wire, to provide the convenience for the constructors to maintain and overhaul in time.With the development of machine vision and image processing technique ,it provides the advantage for non-contact detecting on the overhead catenary. The thesis is based on the research of domestic and foreign methods on the measurement, the embedded ARM technology, binocular stereovision technology and image processing technique are applied in the measurement for the geometry parameters of electric contact wire. The image signal of the wire was obtained by the two linear CMOS cameras which were symmetrically fixed on the electric train, then get the coordinates of abrasion edge points by edge detection. The height, the pull and the abrasion breadth of the geometry parameters could be obtained.The thesis design the hardware of the measurement and the software processing system according to the theory of the detecting, then make the measurement running in the laboratory, and analyze the error according to the results. All this provides the base for the measurement system about the geometry parameters of the electric contact wire.
