Millimeter-wave technology is important in military field. Millimeter-wave chips and test devices, especially in W-band, are not available in commerce from overseas. So, researching and designing millimeter-wave wideband signal resource is of great importance for military use and can improve millimeter-wave technology in our country. In this paper, millimeter-wave wideband multiplier has been studied on. Based on balanced structure, harmonic balance method and solid state multiplier theory, millimeter-wave wideband multiplier is designed.Firstly, based on solid state multiplier theory, multiply efficiency calculation and frequency layout is designed for the multiplier chain; Then, based on active multiplier theory, a Ka-band wideband multiplier is designed; Three-line microstrip structures theory has been studied on. A wideband bandpass filter with an improved three-line microstrip has been designed and tested for suppressing unwanted harmonics. It has a fractional bandwidth (FBW) more than 40% at Ka-band; Different multiplier structures in W-band have been examined. Base on balanced structure and harmonic balance method, three kinds of multipliers (microstrip type, fin-line type and MMIC type) are designed in W-band for theory analysis and comparison. Diode pair in a balanced configuration and directely matching method are used for keeping output power and suppressing even harmonics in microstrip type multiplier. A fixed tune module is uesed for reducing the affection of fabrication error in fin-line type multiplier. MMIC type multiplier is fabricated for comparison. As tested, the microstrip multiplier performance is better in entire W-band with ourput power 0~-14.5dBm, multiplier loss 20~34.5dB and harmonic suppress above 20dBc.
