During the recent 30 years, a lot of researches have been made on Spatial Light Modulators (SLM). There are many kinds of SLMs. The subjects, theories and technologies SLM refers are varied. Transmission-Mode and light-addressing spatial light modulators are simple-structured and with the ability of high-speed processing the optic-electronic information. Many kinds of crystals are photosensitive, but among all these materials, BSO is ultraviolet-sensitize with many advantages. BSO makes SLM very stable in a bad environment, and the advantages of real-time working and miniaturization. So it's very meaningful to study on the lights-addressing spatial light modulator based on BSO.In this dissertation, we did a lot of research on the photoconductive of BSO. The resistance of BSO drops sharply when exposed to ultraviolet. We have theoretically studied the principle of LC-SLM and the photoconductivity of BSO. The relationship between photocurrent and the power of the illumination was introduced. In the experiment, the photoconductive effect of a slice of BSO with different wave-lengths illumination was measured. The optical path difference caused by the liquid crystal layer can be calculated by the distribution of the liquid crystal director under applied voltage on the basis of the theory of continuous elastic. In the final, we put the BSO and LC together and discussed the phase modulation characteristic of the LC-SLM based on BSO.
