The growing number of portable devices and the requirement to provide seamless connectivity to the global Internet for mobile users has stimulated the research into IP mobility protocols. Mobile IP is the current standard solution for mobility management in IP networks. Mobile IP enables a mobile node to move freely from one access point of Internet to another one without causing disruption of established TCP connectivity. But there are still some defects in Mobile IP protocol now. For example, route optimizing, smoothing handover, harmful influence to upper protocols, Qos and Security mobility. So the Mobile IP paradigm must be enhanced to solve these problems. Nowadays, there are two most popular research fields in Mobile IP: one of them is to make Mobile IP protocol compatible with the network circumstance in existence. The other is to increase the system's performance. In this paper, the author's research involves two fields of Mobile IP: smoothing handover and security. Some important results to the theory and application of Mobile IP are obtained. This paper successed in combining layered foreign agents that based on micro movement and AAA protocol, considering both handover performance and security. The paper also proposed an AAA authenticate protocol in a micro movement Mobile IP network that contains a gateway foreign agent creatively. It doesn't only make Mobile IP a good handover performance but also reinforced the security of mobile node using AAA authenticate protocol. The theory has the strong points of both sides, which making it easily accepted.Chapter one of the paper introduces the significance, present status of this research and development direction. The basic theory of cryptology is also introduced. In chapter two, Mobile IP technology is briefly introduced. The paper gives the actual problem needs to be solved and the method it uses, and describes its working mechanism, which consists of agent researching, registration and tunnel. The security problems are dealt with in chapter three, containing security threat which Mobile IP faced and some advice for enhancing security. In chapter four, the base theory of layered foreign agents is introduced first, AAA protocol and its application in layered foreign agents Mobile IP is introduced after that. The paper discusses two situations, one is registration between two different administrative domains, and the other is registration in one administrative domain. Finally, it gives some new creative solutions to increase the performance of mobile agent, which making the paper closed to practical application.
