With new bandwidth-intensive applications, such as distributed storage, e-Science, multi-Service integration, and the high-performance VPN (Virtual Private Network), being applied widely, transmission network faces new challenge and new demand. With the development of new intelligent optical network, a novel VPN based on intelligent optical transmission network has become the research hotspot for organization, industry and academia. In this work, we select two aspects to research: (1) research of wavelength assignment algorithm based on GMPLS; (2) research of user interface technology for VPN.Firstly, the background, source and significance of this work are introduced. This work is supported by Chinese National Programs for High Technology Research and Development (2007AA01Z246).Secondly, Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) protocol architecture is discussed, which clearly separates the control plane and the forwarding plane, to support multiple types of switching. Various features of GMPLS including bi-directional label switch path, link bundling, unnumbered links, link management protocol, suggested label, label set are introduced.Thirdly, Priority-based Wavelength Assignment (PWA) algorithm and Label Prioritization Wavelength Assignment (LPWA) algorithm are investigated and an improved LPWA algorithm is proposed to enhance the justice of network. Then, a Double Priorities Wavelength Assignment (DPWA) algorithm is also proposed for GMPLS-controlled optical Network based on PWA algorithm. Simulations show that the DPWA algorithm can effectively reduce the blocking probability of services. Finally, VPN model based on Hose-technology is researched and a user-controlled interface model based on hose VPN model is proposed adapting to the Hose-VPN characteristics and user demands. This model increases the network utilization for network provider and reduces the cost of VPN for VPN users. The main contribution and innovation of the thesis include the following. The LPWA algorithm is improved and the DPWA algorithm is proposed and simulated using OPNET tool. A user-controlled interface model based on hose VPN is proposed to change bandwidth of the hose interface automatically.
