Image intensifier is a vacuum imaging device which can enhance and convert the faint optical image to the optical image being suitable for the human eyes' observation, and plays an important role in low-light-level(LLL) area. Photocathode is one of the important parts of image intensifier, so the performance of intensifier depends on it. And the curve of the spectral response is often as a standard to evaluate the image intensifier's performance. With the development of the ultraviolet and near-infrared detection technology, the spectral response testing system which is limited in visible light area can not meet the requirement of the test. On the base of a spectral response testing system which has been completed, we improved and perfected it to make the test much more stable and precise. This system is not only able to test visible-light intensifier but also UV and Near-Infrared intensifier. As a result, it can provide foundation for producing technics improvements of different kinds of photocathode.This paper studied the achievement of response test system and the performance of intensifier sponsored by National Defense Research Project. Main jobs are summarized below:First, on the base of a spectral response testing system which has been completed, analyzed the factors influencing the test results, and improved the light source, the high-voltage power and a part of circuit of the original testing system.Second, using the improved testing system, studied the stability of the UV image intensifier and the producing technics of the Cs2Te photocathode through the tested spectral response curves of the UV imaging intensifier.Third, discussed two different methods of calculating the integral sensitivity, analyzed the advantages and disadvantages and the different apply environment of two methods. Test the spectral response curves of the third generation imaging intensifier, and analyze the factors which influencs the quantum efficiency through the technology of parameters fitting. The improved software of the spectral response testing system can be used to test the spectrum sensitivity at the wavelength of 1060nm of the Near-Infrared intensifier.Last, all jobs in this paper have been summarized. Future improvements have also been put forward.
