If the automatic recognition problem of the pattern of channel encoding can be solved, the adaptive ability and agility of communication system will be improved greatly, and the spectrum efficiency and transmission rate will also increased. Punctured convolution codes have been applied widely in radio communication because of its excellent correcting performance. In this paper, a code rate recognition method for punctured convolutional code has been proposed based on parity check matrix.This paper researches detailedly for (2,1,6) non-systematic convolutional codes and punctured convolutional codes of rate (n-1)/n by using optimal punctured matrix generated, the recognition problem of punctured convolutional codes for rate (n-1)/n has been solved by using primary transformation of matrix and the invariant factors factorization theorem according to formulae C(D)×H T(D) = 0 and G(D)×H T(D) = 0. The main work of the paper are as follows: 1) The equivalence generator matrix of convolutional codes has been calculated , then we present the generator matrix and the check matrix for common multi-rate of (2,1,6) punctured convolutional codes by using the invariant factors factorization theorem and optimal punctured matrix; 2) The theory basis of finding the check matrix of receiving data sequence has been elaborated ,it is solving linear equations by using primary row transformation of matrix according to linear algebra theory, we propose the principle how to construct infinitesimal linear equations and the recognition arithmetic based on the check matrix; 3) The paper makes an introduction to other problem when the recognition technology is realized, these problem include phase fuzzy and interleaving recognition and etc. Then we introduce advantage and shortcoming of each recognition method, and analyze detailedly the reason which the receiving data engender phase fuzzy, we propose the method to finding phase fuzzy by solving linear equations; 4) The software design of the recognition arithmetic has been completed with VC++ programming and simulated it with MATLAB, The simulation results demonstrate that the probability and speed of recognition basically satisfy the requirement of engineering application. We present the method to optimize the probability and speed of recognition in the engineering application, this method can reduce the sensitivity of recognition to bit error rate.The recognition technology of punctured convolutional codes has avoided the shortcoming of common recognition technology. It has the advantage of simple arithmetic, higher recognizing probability, faster speed and not increased the complexity of decoding and etc. This method can also be applied to the recognition of systematic convolutional codes and non-systematic convolutional codes because of based on the check matrix, it show most applicability for recognition of convolutional codes. It has solved the recognition of channel encoding in self-adaptive communication because it can satisfy the real time and practicability requirement of engineering application, so it has widest application prospect in the future self-adaptive communication.
