With the push of digitalization-centered information development, digital technology gradually obtains full application. As the core and integration of consumer electronic products, now Digital TV (DTV) has become the focus of international competition. Compared with previous analogue TV broadcasts, digital TV not only brings a reform in economizing radio spectrum and improving the quality of programs but also opens a new era in transmitting service message as well.Nowadays,it is a certain trend of the DTV popularization.While using set-top box to receive digital programs,there is a great potential business opportunity in the Box market. Since DTV is stepping into a rapid-developing period, there has also been a substantial increase of programs by the programs providers. The demand to help users to easily find their favorite programs from numerous digital TV programs leads to the growth of Electronic Program Guide (EPG). Relying on its abundant digital video broadcasting Chinese service information (SI), Electronic Program Guide (EPG) helps users not only receive TV,broadcasting and sudtitled programs, but also learn their interested information schedule like programs chart and present programs status,besides, users can store their loved programs for checking out information at any time from the pre-established categories. The programs search would become very easy under the guide of EPG. As the EPG is an important part of the Digital TV system,there is a very practical significance of its research.Therefore, the paper introduces the background, basic concept, features and market demand of Electronic Program Guide.Based on the deep understanding of the TV business information standard and research on the standard of DVB,SI and MPEG-2,the paper especially emphasizes on the expanding information chart of DVB standard based on PSI. The implemented solution of EPG is designed based on analyse of the DVB SI structure and GX6102 chip features ,which is to apply the business information SI to set up the EPG in the DVB system, use the PSI of MPEG-2 to mapping the programs and select the TS of MPEG-2 to transfer the data.From the structure models of the EPG system according the approach,the paper is clearly set forth of each function module and its realization to establish relative date base of the EPG realization and use the software technology to fulfill the function.This paper study the development of the EPG model software,the realisation of the major functions of EPG, the particular testing and performance optimization of the designed system to fulfill favorable mutual relation between human and TV.
