Mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) is a dynamic and autonomous network composed of wireless mobile hosts or nodes. It can be easily deployed without the help of existing netwok infrastructure. In a mobile ad hoc network, each node also acts as a router, forwarding data packets for other nodes. With the flexibility, robustness and less investment, this kind of network has been applying in the comprehense field such as military, traffic, education and et al.In this thesis, we intruduced the status of development, base conception and characteristics of the network. There are two kind of routing protocol in mobile Ad Hoc network: table-driven routing protocol and on-demand routing protocol. The Dynamic Source Routing protocol (DSR) is a simple and efficient routing protocol designed specifically for use in multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks of mobile nodes. DSR allows the network to be completely self-organizing and self-configuring, without the need for any existing network infrastructure or administration. The protocol is composed of the two main mechanisms of "Route Discovery" and "Route Maintenance", which work together to allow nodes to discover and maintain routes to arbitrary destinations in the ad hoc network.Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) defines a standard interface that is used by low-level drivers to interact with layered models. It provides two abstraction layers to connect the network drivers with the overlying protocol stack such as TCP/IP, as well as the underlying network adapter. NDIS directly handles the transmission and reception of packets by activating the data link layer or the hardware device. The NDIS performs a set of external functions for network adapter drivers such as registering and intercepting hardware interrupts, and it communicates with the underlying network adapter. The discovery packets flood in the whole network with original DSR routing protocol. In order to reduce unnecessary flooding packets, we calculate the effective time of the rooting with related parameters, and determine the upper limit of query times with Six Degrees of Separation. The optimized DSR routing protocol greatly improved the performance of the network.NDIS is analyzed, and the scheme that can implement the DSR source routing protocol in the intermediate driver is proposed in this thesis. Also implementation and technical details of the main part are given. In addition to this, a bed is built to test this schema, and the availability of the algorithm implementing the routing protocol in the intermediate driver is verified either.
