QINGDAO, the host city for sailing events at the 2008 Olympic Games, was threatened with green algae before the Olympic.The State environment protection laboratory of IRSA (Institute of Remote Sensing Applications, Chinese Academy of Science) monitor green algae using satellite image. The paper is finished in this situation. The research aims to conduct dynamic monitoring of the Sailing match area as well as its extended area in Qingdao mainly using the remote sensing image, which is received by MODIS sensor onboard TERRA and AQUA. The MODIS data receiving station includes IRSA and NASA. The main jobs of the thesis are listed as follows:(1) The paper researches the character and technique index of MODIS sensor, gives the detail need of using MODIS in software construction.(2) The paper analyzes the application of MODIS data comparing to remote sensing of alage and other similar remote sensing image processing system in the world. On the basis of developing environment and the construction of software aiming to monitor green algae using MODIS data, the paper designs functional flow diagram.(3) According to the spectrum parameter character and application need, the research reforms the data preprocessing algorithm of MODIS. Combined with the measured spectral data of green algae, the paper analyzes the band selection of MODIS and the green algae extracting algorithm.(4) Some functions of the software to monitor green algae are completed in ENVI platform based on IDL (Interactive Data Language). These functions mainly include: satellite data import, destriping the noise of MODIS data and geometric correction module, extracting the green algae. By designing right interface parameters and files, the paper implements calling functions each other, gets the scope and the area of green algae.(5) To verify the result of software, the paper do a comparative analysis with the airborne data and satellite data of radar, it turned out to be reasonable to meet the demand for emergency monitoring.(6) The paper analysis the origin of algae and predicts the future situation through the method of time series analysis before the Olympic game associate with the deciphering image.At last, the paper achieve the desired goals, realized in advance warning in Sailing match area and surrounding areas of QINGDAO.
