The millimeterwave PA is the key component of the millimeterwave TR module. The PA should work in the state of degradation of the output power because of the application of the TR module. However, this will result in reduction of the power-added efficiency (PAE).The dynamic bias circuit can improve the power-added efficiency as the dc consumption follows the output power by changing the dc feeding. In millimeterwave band, there are few reports both at home and abroad. In this paper, it is the first time to apply dynamic bias technology to the millimeterwave PA with focus on PAE.The main research in this paper includes:1. The theories and key points of dynamic bias technology are studied and an improved method is proposed which can be used in millimeterwave PA.2. The theory and design of millimeterwave PA are discussed which include dc bias circuit, circuit of negative voltage protection and pulse modulation, framework design devices installation and debugging.3. The millimeterwave detector of the dynamic bias network is studied with focus on its working principle, design method, simulation as well as fabrication.4. Waveguide to microstrip probe transition is studied. The three-dimensional model is set up for simulation with the main parameters and the real circuit is manufactured.The dynamic bias PA of millimeterwave is tested when the output power backs off in the range of 3dB. Its PAE has been improved significantly with respect to the PAE of a fixed bias PA. In this thesis, a new attempt of the technology application has been made and some contribution has also been made for the further study of millimeterwave high efficiency power amplifier.
