In recent years there have been many international telemedicine projects and programmes. Many countries vigorously develop the private network to strengthen the support for teleconsultation. At the present time, the architecture of most teleconsultation platforms is centralized. Poor network condition often leads to low quality of communication, and failure of data center causes all service to terminate. The service scope of each telemedicine center is limited and the cooperation between them is little, which prohibited the development of telemedicine and also resulted in redundant construction. The former consultation cooperation is usually assigned by telemedicine center with manual interference, which decreases the efficiency a lot. The lack of integration between teleconsultation platform and hospital information system (HIS) leads to useless work as well. With the extensive application of Internet, as well as IPv6 network-related research, the network bandwidth and the gradual increase in the rapid development of network technology, but also promote the study of distributed network based on IPv6 teleconsultation platform has become an important trend. Facing the problems of existing telemedicine remote consultation platform, IPv6 is proposed based on the distributed platform for teleconsultation and design, in order to solve the resource-sharing and cooperative-working related problems which medical institutions will meet during the buildup of dynamic alliance. This paper makes a research on the new features of IPv6 network and advantages of distributed architecture, and puts forward a notion of IPv6 based distributed telemedicine remote consultation platform. The paper analyzes many key problems existing in the process of establishing IPv6 based distributed telemedicine remote consultation platform, such as migrating from existing systems, data description, resource integration, security, user authentication, etc. In addition, the technical details in the design, development and test processes service-oriented teleconsultation platform, a prototype project of the platform, have also been introduced. At last, on the base of the conclusion of our research, some problems which should be solved in our future work are pointed out and discussed.
