With the high speed development of storage technology, the quantity of storage for each single person is increasing accordingly. The importance of data is also experiencing great changes. Traditional data backup technology copies data to backup server periodically. When original data get broken or lost, people can restore them from backup server. However, the data between two backup windows will be lost. Continuous Data Protection is a data disaster recovery method which can capture and monitor data changes and recover data to any point in time. Continuous data protection can recover data to any point in time before it was broken, therefore can eliminate the data loss between previous backup and data broken which exist in traditional backup technology.First this paper introduces the concepts of data backup, data loss, continuous data protection. It also gives their present research situation and future prospect both domestic and abroad. Then we analysis and summarize some of the problems existed in traditional continuous data protection system. Combined with the characteristic of file read and write, we designed a new continuous data protection system based on compression algorithm and system structure improvement.The author implements an iSCSI-based continuous data protection system. This paper explains the detailed design of modules and components. Finally, the critical technologies and summarizations are expounded.
