A mobile Ad hoc network is an autonomous system of mobile hosts connected by wireless links. Such networks are useful in military and other tactical applications, e.g., emergency rescue or exploration missions, where cellular infrastructure is unavailable or unusable. In such a network, each mobile node operates not only as a host but also as a router. This network has a series of the strengths, for example, MANET can be built rapidly and easy, and it is not set measures to by wired network, and so on.Because of constantly changing topology, Ad hoc networks can't adopt traditional protocols. Research of routing protocols becomes the most important part of the research of Ad hoc networks. The actuality and prospect of Ad hoc networks are summarized in chapter one of this paper, including the definition, characteristic, application fields and critical tecnologies of Ad hoc networks. Then the classical Ad hoc network routing protocols characteristics, classification was analyzed and compared the DSDV, AODV and DSR routing protocols, such as the network performance. Then some improvements to the classic Ad hoc network routing protocols technical analysis. This paper also simulation of the classic design Ad hoc networks DSDV, AODV and DSR routing protocols to the simulation analysis. In the final paper from the DSR protocol to improve performance by an improved line of thought, DSR protocol on the parameters of the amended and verified by simulation analysis of different parameters on the performance of DSR protocol. In this paper, the comparison of the protocols and improvements of DSR protocol are based on NS-2 network simulation environment, the platform of this paper is Windows XP and Cygwin, and this paper provides reference methods, reference model and reference data for the design and programming of practical system.
