The traditional vehicle performance experimentation is conducted through some testing equipments installed on the real vehicles, which requires a lot of money and manpower, and results in long development cycle and low design efficiency. With the development of the information technology and the high-performance computer technology, the virtual experiment technology develops gradually, which makes product development cycle be largely shortened, being widely used in engineering design. In this paper, the modern vehicle design theory is applied to investigate the vibration characteristics of special-purpose vehicles by virtual test technology, and an opening desktop virtual test system is developed. Vibration performance simulation is carried in this system, providing some theoretical foundation and design decision for the same type of chassis system design. The main research work includes:The development of the virtual test technology is introduced. The overall frame of the special-purpose vehicles virtual test system is constructed, and an opening desktop virtual test system in terms of virtual reality system is designed. The framework and principle of the software and hardware system is discussed.The finite element model is set up by means of I-DEAS and Hypermesh packages. According to the structure of the cab, chassis and the whole vehicle, the finite element modeling techniques of complex structure is researched. Then modal analysis and evaluation of the main parts is conducted to find the potential weakness of the design.The structure and the working environment of the vehicle are analyzed in detail, and then a flexible multi-body dynamics model is constructed for the vehicle. The simulation is conducted to find the effect of the suspension system, the engine relative position, the different road environment on dynamic response of the vehicle, which provides a technical reference for the design and use of vehicles.Based on the DIVISION MockUp, the vibration characteristics virtual test technology of special-purpose vehicles is explored. The general process of virtual experiment is given. The method of model transformation form PRO/E to DIVISION MockUp is researched. According to the development kit of the DIVISION MockUp and LabVIEW, a virtual testing environment is developed. Finally, a preliminary vibration characteristics virtual testing of the vehicle is conducted.
