Firstly, the research status of wireless sensor network and several kinds of existing protocols are introduced in detail in the thesis, then the study of the routing protocols for WSN is summed up, which contains the characters, the performance indicators and the factors affecting of routing protocols. And the existing problems and the optimized principles of routing protocols are analysed. Finally, the programme of design for routing protocols is chose in the thesis.Secondly, improved algorithms are introduced in detail. In order to achieve to reduce duplication of data sent in, save energy, prolong the network lifetime and balance the network load, improved algorithms are based on the minimum hops algorithm which is one of the energy-aware routing, When the characters of the minimum hops algorithm are analysed in detail,multi-path routing, adaptive dynamic routing, routing reliability are designed. Then a new algorithm based on minimum hops in plane routing protocol and a new algorithm based on minimum hops in clustering routing protocol are designed in the thesis. The algorithms combin the advantages of different routing protocols, which can increase network robustness and expansibility. The simulation results show that improved algorithms are more ideal to improve results.Thirdly, in the integrated development environment of ICC AVR, the procedures of two algorithms are designed, which use CC2420 RF chip and ATmega128L as a platform for sensor nodes; the algorithm contains the definition and processing of the frame format, core data structure and the service functions .The operation of a network node is also designed. Finally, improved algorithms are debugged on the platform. The results indicate that the new routing protocol can work steadily and establish a mesh network, which laid the foundation for further study.
